So guess what we’re talking about today… that’s right folks, BITTERNESS! (week 4 of a six part series) Last week we looked at King Saul’s jealousy toward David, that is was completely unfounded and in fact David lived tirelessly to be a blessing to the king.
One of the more salient points in last week’s message was that bitterness can occurred from real or imagined offences, and never is that any clearer than today as we look at bitterness toward God. He has never sinned against us, He has never accidentally offended us, His motives are completely pure, and yet some people—even Christians—are bitter towards God.
In my experience this is typically related to some loss (real or perceived) and is based on an earthly value system. Loss of health, a job, or even a loved one cause temporary pain which would have passed away after a short while but for bitterness, which can cause us to lose eternal rewards.
Today’s message is going to have a lot to do with perspective, yours and God’s. I hope if you struggle with apprehensions over your relationship with God we move toward putting them to rest today. The solution to your feelings of relational insecurity with God is focusing on His unwavering character, demonstrated in the person of Jesus Christ. One hour can’t undo a season of bitterness but let’s get started just the same!
